The Bard's Tale IV Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: inXile Publisher: inXile Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No   Review code provided by the publisher. I n the village of Skara Brae, where the game opens, there’s a merchant who apparently sells soup. I say apparently because I’ve never seen this soup. The man selling it claims I’m not worthy to taste his legendary broth, and even the loading screen gently informs me that I’ll never be worthy, that I should accept it and just move on. But I couldn’t. Over the coming hours, I defeated evil sorcerers, saved the world, solved a bunch of puzzles and even herded some fairies around the place. I never forgot about the soup, though. Maybe one day I will be worthy. One day.   It’s been some 33-years since the very first Bard’s Tale arrived on the scene, and two sequels followed before the series seemingly died in 1991, the very same year I was born. It’s a little strange to see the franchise suddenly resurrected, perhaps a direct result of th...

TT Isle of Man: Ride On The Edge Review

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4 Reviewed On: PC (release date, March 26th) Developer: Kylotonn Racing Games Publisher: Bigben Interactive Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: Yes Review code provided free of charge by the publisher. The Isle of Man TT is absolutely insane, a relic of a bygone era where racing was raw and dangerous. It’s 37.73 miles of public road weaving through several towns and then up the Snaefell Mountain that gets shut down so that a bunch of lunatics on beautiful motorcycles can scream around the epic track, taking the 274 corners at horrifying speeds while blasting between houses, barely missing pavements and even leaping into the air. It’s simply amazing to watch, a yearly spectacle that has given birth to legends like John McGuiness, Michael Dunlop, and Guy Martin. The entire length of the legendary Isle of Man TT course has been recreated in superb detail thanks to laser scanning technology, meaning this is likely as close as you’ll ever get to racing on the ...

Micromanagement Nightmare

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: T4 Interactive Publisher: Tinybuild Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Y‘know, reviewing Community Inc. has proved harder than I first imagined. Every time I find a problem or issue or little niggle the developers are already promising to fix it in the next patch, or indeed already have fixed it by the time this review is ready to go, leaving me to once again sigh and edit the damn thing. Of course, this is to the developer’s credit; they’re incredibly active on the Steam forums and have been taking on board all the various bits of feedback. People mentioned, for example, that they didn’t like how farmers wouldn’t collect crops without being manually told to do so and the developers quickly added that to the list of upcoming changes. EDIT: Wait, they’ve actually changed it in an update as I wrote this. Clearly, then, the developers deserve praise for their speed? Ah, but you see things aren’t that simple as despite the hasty fixing of pro...
