Guns 'N' Stories: Bulletproof Review

So far my foray’s into virtual reality gaming have been frequently amazing, from the brain teasing of Red Matter to the gunplay of Borderlands 2, a 6-year-old game reborn in VR. But Guns ‘N Stories: Bulletproof is my first negative experience, a wave-shooter that left me bored. It’s not the kind of game I can even rip apart, though, because it does most of what it sets out to do competently. So let’s review this western and see where it goes wrong. Review code provided free of charge by the publisher Platforms: PS VR, Oculus Rift, Vive Reviewed On: PS VR Developer: Mirowin Publisher: Mirowin Now, I should say that wave-based shooters are not the problem. Hell, in my review of Gun Club for the PS VR I pointed out that they’re a natural fit for virtual reality. The problem is there’s a lot of them on the market so any new game needs to be pretty good in order to stand out from the crowd and Guns ‘N’ Stories: Bulletproof just isn’t. The premise has some potential with the game kickin...

Gun Club VR (PSVR) Review

Platforms: Oculus Rift, Vive, PSVR Reviewed On; PS4 Pro Developer: The Binary Mill Publisher: The Binary Mill Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: Leaderboards I t’s easy to criticize the amount of wave-based shooters available for VR, but the genre is especially suited to virtual reality, perhaps even more so with PSVR where real-life movement is limited. Gun Club VR is yet another wave-based shooter, sure, yet it wants to set itself apart with an emphasis on realism. Give it a few hours and you’ll feel like John freakin’ Wick. Just with, y’know, that gun-fu part. Or the dead puppy. Or the smashed car. So kick back and read my review of Gun Club VR. Before you get your hands on a gun the game quickly asks you to adjust your height until you feel happy, which is a great option to have included. You can also tweak the grip angle of weapons until you find the exact right setting for you. It’s not exactly as extensive as the raft of options in Borderlands 2 VR, but it’s solid enough. There...

Mothergunship Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games Publisher: Sold Out Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code provided free of charge by the publisher. D o you like guns? Do you like shooting guns? Do you like shooting lots and lots of enemies with those guns? Mothergunship might just be for you then, letting you click together guns like a deadly version of Lego. Want a lighting rod strapped to a flamethrower? You can do that! Or do you just want multiple barrels that fire spiky metal balls? You can do that too. You’ll be playing as a nameless recruit fighting in a war against alien invaders, done by clambering into their ships, shooting through a bunch of randomly selected rooms and then standing on the giant self-destruct button. Repeat potentially hundreds of times. If it sounds utterly stupid then that’s because it is and the game is wholly aware of that, playing into the fact with a merry sense of humour and a cast of characters such a...
