Wait, Is It The 90's Again?

Ah, the 90’s were a hell of a time for the real-time strategy genre. It was the birthplace of one of my favorite games of all time; Total Annihilation. It was also the time of Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, Homeworld and Starcraft. It seems that developer Pathos Interactive view this as a golden age, too, because Bannermen feels and looks like it was ripped out of the 90’s and shoved into 2019. The problem is, even by the standards of the 90’s Bannermen isn’t very interesting. The campaign follows a chap by the name of Lord Berrian who, along with everyone else, gets his arse kicked by an evil lord named Karthor. Due to his bruised backside Berrian sets out to take Karthor down and free the kingdom from evil. From there a few minor characters get introduced, but if you’re looking for a deep, engrossing plot then Bannermen is not it. What you do get is a series of 18 fairly basic missions that have you building bases, crushing armies or occasionally dabbling in some light st...

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 Review

Once again it’s time to go back to the eternally dark Warhammer universe where friendly hand shakes are a myth and even the baby sitters wear spiky armour and wield lethal weapons. The first Battlefleet Gothic: Armada proved to be a surprise, offering up some brilliant spaceship battling. Considering that the Warhammer licence gets handed out like free candy these days it was even nicer to be gifted a game about massive spaceships clashing. Now, though, we have Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2, the sequel that offers more ships, more factions and more awesomeness. This time around we get three separate single-player campaigns that focus on the Imperium, the Necrons and the scary-ass Tyranids who field massive floating space creatures rather than ships. You can’t access these until you’ve gone through the prologue, though, which focuses on the Imperium and their massive warships. Out of the whopping twelve factions in the game the Imperium is the easiest to grasp, their massive ships capa...

Wisdom of Solomon Kickstarter Quick Review

Designed by: Philip duBarry Art by: Tim Baron, Matthew Ebisch Published by: Funhill Games Players: 2-5 Play time: 30-75 Minutes Review copy supplied free of charge by the publisher. D ue to the review copy of Wisdom of Solomon arriving just before the Kickstarter began and the campaign having just six days left as I write this, this is going to be a short review so that you can at least get an idea of how it plays. So let’s just leap head-first into this, shall we? And please, forgive me if my writing is a lot rougher than it usually is, which is certainly saying something. You’ll be acting as a Governor for King Solomon, the very king known for building the famous temple of Solomon during the golden age of Isreal. It’s your job to expand the King’s influence by constructing new buildings, grabbing resources and helping out with the temple. Whoever manages to curry the most favor with the King by the end of the game will be crowned the winner. In other words, it’s about victory...

But Where's Matt Damon!?

Platforms: Xbox One, PC, PS4 Reviewed On: PC Developer: Haemimont Games Publisher: Paradox Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code supplied free of charge by the publisher. Mars, the Red Planet that has always held a strange fascination for us little Earthlings. Like so many, I watched the film adaption of The Martian and was intrigued by the story of survival on an alien world. Scientists and regular ol’ people have long dreamed of colonizing Mars, but just how difficult a task would it be? Could it ever be done? Well, Surviving Mars wants to know that too, so for some baffling reason it puts you in charge of turning Mars into a new home. A really, really dusty home. The first big decision you make in Surviving Mars, aside from what to name the rocket which will probably take you an hour alone, isn’t about how you’ll build the inaugural Martian settlement. No, it’s about where you’ll land. There are so many places to choose from and they all have differing amounts of th...
