Weekend Whammy: More Mordhau, Peggle 2 & Why Motivational Mute Is Awesome

Hello again my friends, enemies and people that I barely care about. The weekend has been and gone yet again, leaving in its wake a trail of unconscious bodies. Just one review this week which was of The Sinking City, a new open-world detective game from Frogware based upon the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. Frogware previous made some pretty good Sherlock Holmes games and The Sinking City uses some of the same concepts when it comes to figuring stuff out. It’s the Lovecraftian horror where Frogware kind of struggled, I think, especially the weedy combat. Still, it was an enjoyable game that a niche audience will probably love. More than anything The Sinking City got me thinking about the continued popularity of Lovecraft. Now that his work is public domain Cthulhu and his cosmic brethren keep popping up all over the place. The cynical side of me can’t help but think that the appeal is less Lovecraft’s intriguing writings and more the fact that developers get access to a massive wealt...

Next Level Racing Wheel Stand Lite Review

So maybe you’re like me and have gone and gotten a shiny new racing wheel so that you can spend hours upon hours screaming along rally courses or lapping Silverstone in a Ferrari F1 car. They tend to come with handy clamps that you can slap onto your desk which is awesome if you just want to race on your PC or something, but if you want to play on console in the living room things can get a bit trickier. That’s where stands come into play. There are a number of them on the market and today I’m reviewing one from the boys and girls over at Next Level Racing. Keep in mind this is the first one I’ve reviewed, so I’m not delving into comparisons between this stand and others that are available on the market, rather I’ll just be tackling this one using…common sense. Yes, a scary idea, I know, but I’m going to give it a whirl. if you were hoping that the LITE part of the name indicated something easily moved around then you’re in for some stinging dissapointment and a sprained back; at ar...

Mothergunship Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games Publisher: Sold Out Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code provided free of charge by the publisher. D o you like guns? Do you like shooting guns? Do you like shooting lots and lots of enemies with those guns? Mothergunship might just be for you then, letting you click together guns like a deadly version of Lego. Want a lighting rod strapped to a flamethrower? You can do that! Or do you just want multiple barrels that fire spiky metal balls? You can do that too. You’ll be playing as a nameless recruit fighting in a war against alien invaders, done by clambering into their ships, shooting through a bunch of randomly selected rooms and then standing on the giant self-destruct button. Repeat potentially hundreds of times. If it sounds utterly stupid then that’s because it is and the game is wholly aware of that, playing into the fact with a merry sense of humour and a cast of characters such a...

Aragami: Shadow Edition Review

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4 and PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Lince Works Publisher: Lince Works Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: Co-op Review code supplied free of charge by the publisher. Originally released back in 2016 for PC, Aragami is now making its way to consoles in the form of the new Aragami: Shadow Edition, complete with a new piece of content called Nightfall, which you can buy separately, that acts as a prequel to the main game. So, since this was a title I skipped when it was first released and in celebration of the new edition hitting consoles let’s check out this ninja stealth ’em up that absolutely has nothing to do with the traditional art of folding paper. Man, was I confused for the first hour. You are an Aragami, a vengeful shadow spirit summoned at the behest of a woman named Yamiko who is currently trapped by the Kaiho, a group of light-adept fanatics. As the Aragami you are a being of shadow, and thus you have a single night in which to achieve the goals...
