Weekend Whammy: Decay of Logos, Control & Aquaman Rocks

Another weekend has passed into the annals of history, as time marches toward its inevitable violent conclusion. And on that happy note it’s time for another Weekend Whammy! Huzzah! Buckle up meat bags, because this week I’m taking more about Control , Luigi’s Mansion , Aquaman and Decay of Logo s. Right, once again before we get going I need to stop and ask you to please check out the Go Fund Me page for my friend with terminal cancer. She doesn’t have a lot of time left, but thanks to the government she has a bunch of debt, can’t pay the bills and is struggling just to get food on the table. I’m helping her out as much as I financially can, but if you can spare even £5 it would be amazingly helpful. Again, here’s the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-a-terminal-cancer-patient So, this week I reviewed Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure which was actually pretty light on the Cthulhu. Like, the tentacle to normal game ratio was heavily tilted in favour of the normal. Anyway it was...

Patch Notes: Game Journalists Being Stupid & E3 2019

Years ago I used to get excited about E3 and the myriad of game announcements that would flood from out of it. But these days it’s a little harder to get excited about the event for a variety of reasons. The strange way in which its ran has resulted in a lot of companies holding their own conferences and events outside of E3. Over the years its become more and more commercial with more and more stilted speeches. This year felt like the big companies were mostly paddling water due to the next generation arriving next year. There were some good games shown but nothing ever felt properly amazing. And there was a significant lack of actual gameplay footage. Instead, there was the usual barrage of badly scripted speeches, PR speak and big production values surrounding simple trailers. Splashes of gameplay footage here or there failed to give us a true look at the upcoming games. Still, there’s a lot to talk about coming out of the show, so let’s delve into just a few things from E3, 201...

Weekend Whammy: Descenders & Sonic Team Racing Reviews

I’ve been a little quiet this week and for that I apologise, friends. Some things came up that I needed to handle, and then when I sat down to write it just ended up being more gibberish than normal, which is really saying something. Anyway, I’m moving Patch Notes to a bi-weekly format with potentially an extra Patch Notes here or there if there’s a lot of news to cover. Of course, I still haven’t posted a Patch Notes in ages, so I’ll remedy that this week! I’m also considering doing a bi-weekly Movie Night post that just chats about a specific film, if that sounds interesting to you guys. I might start with Halloween (2018) or perhaps a look back at the Avengers or even the recent 4k release of Hellboy 2. From there I might mix stuff like my adoration of Baby Driver in, as well as talk about weirder stuff like Iron Sky: The Coming Race. Anyway, on to the usual stuff. The only thing I put out this week was a lengthy ramble about the final episode of Game of Thrones. There was a lo...

Weekend Whammy: Days Gone Review, John Wick 3 & Game Of Thrones Anxiety

As another weekend rushes by I’m going to keep this Weekend Whammy short and sweet. Because I too am short and sweet. Well, short, anyway. As everyone reading this knows being on the Internet means developing a tough skin, even more so if you happen to make videos or stick your opinions up for other people to read. I’ve gotten my fair share of flack and usually I take it in stride. But man, for some reason today I got punched in the gut. Someone kindly asked if my Days Gone review was, “written by an 11 year old.” Ouch. I don’t know why but that one hit me. I know I’m not great but…an 11-year-old? Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will leave deep psychological scars that slowly turn a man into the Joker. Heh. Anyway, lets get on with this Weekend Whammy. First up, I finally reviewed Days Gone. It’s a little late, but I did wind up vomiting up a shade over 3,000 words to do it, so that has to count for something. On launch Days Gone got a fairly lukewarm reception fro...

Unforeseen Incidents Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Backwoods Entertainment Publisher: Application Systems Heidelberg Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code supplied free of charge by the publisher. Y ‘know, when I was but a tiny human person playing games like Driver or GTA III or Mortal Kombat I also had a love of point and click games that came from my mum. Still, as I grew up I always thought it would be a genre destined to fade into obscurity as technology marched forwards toward a presumably horrible future where sentient video games take over the world. I still loved the games, but at the time they seemed so antiquated compared to the vast worlds that were being built. What was Guybrush to do against the might of CJ as he roamed a huge map of San Andreas? And yet here I am in 2018 still happily enjoying figuring out little puzzles. Man, I’m glad I was wrong. The point and click genre is still going strong. The star of the game is Harper Pendrell, a well-meaning guy who...

Twitch Streamer PaladinAmber Does Not Have Time For Your Shit, Internet Creeps

Make creepy comments in PaladinAmber’s Twitch chat at your own risk. “How much for a hug?” somebody asked during a stream a few days ago. In the blink of an eye, PaladinAmber switched over to an infomercial-style overlay, complete with a (fake) phone number and a list of payment options. “You wanna know how much it’s gonna be for a hug?” she asked. “That’s right, you guessed it: It’s gonna be nineteen-ninety fuck off.” Advertisement In the past couple weeks, PaladinAmber has risen to a place of viral celebrity with these sorts of clips. Usually, it goes something like this: A viewer says one of approximately eight million inappropriate things women on the internet hear on a daily basis, and PaladinAmber roasts them until there’s nothing left but sinew and bone. She does this with an elaborate camera setup, creative overlays, and improvisational humor, generally drawing on tropes from news broadcasts and infomercials. For example, a question about whether she was straight or bi—and, of ...
