An Injection Of Happy Nostalgia

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Two Point Studios Publisher: SEGA Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No I f the phrase, “Patients are reminded not to die in the corridors” sets off your nostalgia senses then congratulations because Two Point Hospital is for, and it’s for me. It’s basically a sequel to the 1998 Theme Hospital in all but name, often feeling so similar that you could swear you were playing a remaster but also putting a few fresh things into the mix to turn this game into one of the most fun and satisfying management sims in recent memory.   Your job is to build up a functioning hospital capable of diagnosing and treating numerous injuries and diseases, all while you manage staff, research new stuff and hopefully turn a tidy profit in the process. It kicks off  identically to the original Theme Hospital as you place an almost disturbingly familiar reception desk in exactly the same place as you would have done all those years ago, and then begin toss down ro...

Mothergunship Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games Publisher: Sold Out Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code provided free of charge by the publisher. D o you like guns? Do you like shooting guns? Do you like shooting lots and lots of enemies with those guns? Mothergunship might just be for you then, letting you click together guns like a deadly version of Lego. Want a lighting rod strapped to a flamethrower? You can do that! Or do you just want multiple barrels that fire spiky metal balls? You can do that too. You’ll be playing as a nameless recruit fighting in a war against alien invaders, done by clambering into their ships, shooting through a bunch of randomly selected rooms and then standing on the giant self-destruct button. Repeat potentially hundreds of times. If it sounds utterly stupid then that’s because it is and the game is wholly aware of that, playing into the fact with a merry sense of humour and a cast of characters such a...

Mario Maker Level Locks You In A Room With A Goomba And Your Darkest Thoughts

A lot of the Mario Maker levels that go viral are pretty universally deranged. They’re usually levels made in the “kaizo” style, impossibly hard courses for expert-level Mario players to speedrun. It’s easy to see why these are widely shared online: We like spectacle. Mario games are easy to parse—a tiny plumber is running from left to right, and wow, all this stuff is sure trying to kill him! “Master Negotiator” is nothing like that. Its description, by creator Nick Fox, reads: “Negotiate with the goomba, be patient.” As far as viral Mario Maker levels go, it’s not terribly exciting. You start in front of two doors. One’s locked and leads to your goal, the other is open and leads into a house. Inside the house, there’s a Goomba shuffling back and forth on one end of a makeshift table. “Sit down” with the Goomba long enough, and he’ll eventually give you the key you need to finish. I love “Master Negotiator,” not because it’s terribly fun to play—you just sit there for a little less th...
