Weekend Whammy: Descenders & Sonic Team Racing Reviews

I’ve been a little quiet this week and for that I apologise, friends. Some things came up that I needed to handle, and then when I sat down to write it just ended up being more gibberish than normal, which is really saying something. Anyway, I’m moving Patch Notes to a bi-weekly format with potentially an extra Patch Notes here or there if there’s a lot of news to cover. Of course, I still haven’t posted a Patch Notes in ages, so I’ll remedy that this week! I’m also considering doing a bi-weekly Movie Night post that just chats about a specific film, if that sounds interesting to you guys. I might start with Halloween (2018) or perhaps a look back at the Avengers or even the recent 4k release of Hellboy 2. From there I might mix stuff like my adoration of Baby Driver in, as well as talk about weirder stuff like Iron Sky: The Coming Race. Anyway, on to the usual stuff. The only thing I put out this week was a lengthy ramble about the final episode of Game of Thrones. There was a lo...

Game of Thrones, S8, Ep 6 “The Iron Throne” Review

A good story is a powerful thing. It is amazing to consider how much impact a book, movie or TV show can have upon on our lives, to the extent that when they end we feel like we’ve lost something. I’ve gone through this a number of times, perhaps most recently when Terry Pratchett passed away and I was hit with the realization that there would never been a Discworld book again. No more Tiffany Aching, no more Rincewind, no more Vimes. Years before that when I closed the final Harry Potter book I was momentarily lost. The same feeling would hit again when the movie adaptions came to an end. Stargate SG-1 was another, a long-running series whose ending left me feeling like a part of my life had just vanished. The point is, I’m still trying to come to terms with the idea that there will be no more Game of Thrones, at least not in its current form. For all the division amongst fans that season 8 has caused, I think we should all take a moment to remember how long Game of Thrones has been...

Weekend Whammy: Days Gone Review, John Wick 3 & Game Of Thrones Anxiety

As another weekend rushes by I’m going to keep this Weekend Whammy short and sweet. Because I too am short and sweet. Well, short, anyway. As everyone reading this knows being on the Internet means developing a tough skin, even more so if you happen to make videos or stick your opinions up for other people to read. I’ve gotten my fair share of flack and usually I take it in stride. But man, for some reason today I got punched in the gut. Someone kindly asked if my Days Gone review was, “written by an 11 year old.” Ouch. I don’t know why but that one hit me. I know I’m not great but…an 11-year-old? Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will leave deep psychological scars that slowly turn a man into the Joker. Heh. Anyway, lets get on with this Weekend Whammy. First up, I finally reviewed Days Gone. It’s a little late, but I did wind up vomiting up a shade over 3,000 words to do it, so that has to count for something. On launch Days Gone got a fairly lukewarm reception fro...

Game of Thrones, S8, E5 "The Bells" Review

At this point the Internet is a blazing battlefield where various factions go to war over this controversial season of Game of Thrones. It’s a mess, and what was once regarded as one of the finest TV shows ever forged has become one of the most divisive. So grab a beer, get some food and join me as I tackle Game of Thrones, Season 8, Episode 5. Oh! And be aware that this is a full spoiler review! Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the latest episode. The first thing to say is that I didn’t have a problem with turns that this episode took. Dany going crazy wasn’t a problem for me. Where the problems lie in this entire season is the lack of proper setup for everything. Still, in what is perhaps a controversial opinion I actually quite enjoyed this episode when taken as a whole. I’ve accepted that things are going to feel more rushed than I would have liked and that the writing isn’t as good as it once was. Now, I’m just enjoying the ride and what a fucking crazy ride it was. First...

Game of Thrones, S8, Ep 4 “The Last of the Starks” Thoughts

When in doubt, set it all on fire. As you may have already guessed this little rant is going to contain spoilers for Game of Thrones, season 8, episode 4 titled The Last of the Starks. If you haven’t watched it yet then stop reading now. Otherwise, venture forth into my lovely word vomit. Be careful where you step, mind. Truly the most important scene we can discuss from the most recent episode of Game of Thrones is how Jon didn’t give Ghost a proper goodbye. What a fucking dick. The direwolf reappeared in the episode prior after having been left with Sansa in Winterfell in season 7. Jon never seems to acknowledge him during The Long Night, and in episode 4 of this season we see Ghost sporting serious wounds from idiotic Dothraki charge. So, after saying goodbye to Sam and Tormund, Jon shares a glance with Ghost. And that’s it. He bids Tormund to take Ghost north where a direwolf can roam free and be happy, but considering the importance of Ghost to fans and to Jon it’s strange tha...
