The Top 10 Board Games I Played In 2017

This list might be a bit late, but I can’t help it; I was playing board games. The point is 2017 was a good year for board games, and being just one person I missed so many amazing games, but I did catch some good ones, too. All in all I reviewed over twenty games in 2017, and played quite a few more, so here’s a list of my nine favorite games that I played in 2017. Do note the wordage, there; these aren’t all 2017 releases, just games that I got around to playing and reviewing that year. Lisboa We’re kicking off with a game that I’m in the process of writing a review for, and failing miserably because sweet baby Jesus, there’s a lot going on! Lisboa is the latest game from genius Vital Lacerda, and is about the rebuilding of Lisbon in the 1700’s following a series of natural disasters that left the city in ruins. You’ll be visiting nobles, constructing new buildings, selling goods and even dealing with the Church in this deep, wonderfully thematic game. The problem is that writing...

Last Day of June Review

Platforms: PC, PS4 Reviewed On: PC Developer: Ovosonico Publisher: 505 Games Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No Review code provided free of charge by the publisher. Part of this boils down to simplicity; without any voice acting emotions are kept simple and ...

We Will Steal...THE MOON!

Designed by: Fabien Riffaud, Juan Rodriguez Published by: Asmodee Players: 2-6 Playtime: 20-minutes Catch the Moon does not waste time with its theme; you build a ponderous tower of ladders in order to catch the moon. It’s a simple, lofty goal, a hint of story in an abstract game you can learn in a minute and then giggle about for many happy hours. Grabbing my attention-span challenged niece, age 9, I sat her down and taught her the whole game in just a couple of minutes. Just a few minutes after that she was hooked. So here’s how it works; you take the cloud-shaped plastic base and then pop the three straight ladders into any of the available holes, forming the basic foundation on which you’ll build upwards toward the sky. Then the first player grabs a random ladder from the pile and rolls the wooden die, placing their chosen ladder based on the result. A single ladder icon rolled means your placed ladder can only touch one other ladder, while a two ladder icon means it has to t...
