Weekend Whammy: Decay of Logos, Control & Aquaman Rocks

Another weekend has passed into the annals of history, as time marches toward its inevitable violent conclusion. And on that happy note it’s time for another Weekend Whammy! Huzzah! Buckle up meat bags, because this week I’m taking more about Control , Luigi’s Mansion , Aquaman and Decay of Logo s. Right, once again before we get going I need to stop and ask you to please check out the Go Fund Me page for my friend with terminal cancer. She doesn’t have a lot of time left, but thanks to the government she has a bunch of debt, can’t pay the bills and is struggling just to get food on the table. I’m helping her out as much as I financially can, but if you can spare even £5 it would be amazingly helpful. Again, here’s the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-a-terminal-cancer-patient So, this week I reviewed Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure which was actually pretty light on the Cthulhu. Like, the tentacle to normal game ratio was heavily tilted in favour of the normal. Anyway it was...

Weekend Whammy: Switch Lite, Mobile Games & Batman & Robin

It’s way too damn hot. Sleep has become impossible because my sheets have melted together to form some sort of sentient being that whispers terrifying things in my ear at night. Or that might have just been a heat-induced nightmare, I dunno. Anyway, the weekend is officially over yet again, and that means it’s time for a Weekend Whammy! One review this week which is for Gorn, a rather brilliant VR brawler that is responsible for several dents in my table and in my knuckles. While it may not be the deep, chunky game that VR is still waiting for it is a game that lets you rip heads off using your bare-hands. Now that’s a selling point. I bit the bullet and bought Wolfenstein: Youngblood. The early trailers did not fill me full of confidence and I’m already regretting my purchase thanks to the amazing Skill Up’s review of the game. Stay tuned for my own views on it. So, I might sort have started playing The Witcher 3 again and let it kinda consume my life. Again. I have no regrets. A...

Weekend Whammy: Games Bring People Together, The Witcher Books & Marvel Phase 4

Happy belated weekend, friends! It’s time to chat about what I’ve reviewed this week, what I’ve played, what I’ve read and why I really do need to start going to be at a sensible time. Okay, maybe I’ll skip that last one. If you haven’t already read it (shame on you) then you should absolutely go check out How World of Warcraft Brings People Together, written by an amazing friend of mine. As the name of the article suggests it’s written by her and based on her own experiences of a long-running World of Warcraft guild where some members have been with them for over a decade. It’s lovely look at how gaming can bring people of all ages, creeds, nationalities and beliefs together. I handed out a pretty big score this week, giving Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled a 4.5. I was actually close to giving it a 5 out of 5, but there were some flaws that held me back. The multiplayer, for example, needs to some work. But really, Crash Team Racing is what good gaming should be. Or it least iw wo...

Patch Notes: Game Journalists Being Stupid & E3 2019

Years ago I used to get excited about E3 and the myriad of game announcements that would flood from out of it. But these days it’s a little harder to get excited about the event for a variety of reasons. The strange way in which its ran has resulted in a lot of companies holding their own conferences and events outside of E3. Over the years its become more and more commercial with more and more stilted speeches. This year felt like the big companies were mostly paddling water due to the next generation arriving next year. There were some good games shown but nothing ever felt properly amazing. And there was a significant lack of actual gameplay footage. Instead, there was the usual barrage of badly scripted speeches, PR speak and big production values surrounding simple trailers. Splashes of gameplay footage here or there failed to give us a true look at the upcoming games. Still, there’s a lot to talk about coming out of the show, so let’s delve into just a few things from E3, 201...

Patch Notes: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Anthem Might Be Dead & Darksiders 4 At E3

Ladies, gentlemen and highly evolved chimps that have learned how to browse the Internet, welcome back to Patch Notes, the bi-weekly series where I chat about some of the gaming news that’s rocking the world! This time I’m chatting about Sony aiming to make movies based on their games, an exciting new Call of Duty, a Call of Duty in trouble and Darksiders 4. So let’s get into it, shall we? Sony Launching New Studio Focused On Game to Film Adaptions Movies based on video games do not have a very good track record. This doesn’t seem to have bothered Sony, though, who have announced Playstation Productions, a new studio dedicated to making movies and TV shows based off of Playstation exclusive games. So far there’s no word on what the studios first project might be. The only thing they said was that they’re looking toward the Marvel Cinematic Universe for inspiration, which is a tad worrying. Not everything needs to be a cinematic universe, folks. Sony does have a catalogue of games...

Patch Notes: Epic Games Call Out Steam

I’m a little late posting this weeks Patch Notes but in my defence I was away watching Avengers: Endgame and still haven’t really recovered from it. There wasn’t a lot of news that really grabbed my attention this week, so I’m just going to focus on two pieces, both involving Epic! Oh, Epic, you just keep providing so much material. Epic Under Fire Due To Work Conditions Regardless of what you think of Epic there’s no denying that they’ve turned themselves into a massive name constantly spawning headlines. This latest one is most definitely negative. Polygon recently put a piece in which they had conducted around a dozen interviews with Epic employees over the last couple of months. What those people had to say is quite damning. Apparently 70-hour work weeks were a common thing, with some people even reporting 100-hour weeks. While this ludicrous amount of work was officially voluntary, Polygon’s interviewees stated that it was “expected.” According to members of Epic’s staff while...

Patch Notes: PS5 Announced & Specs Revealed, Plus A New Xbox

I failed to post a Patch Notes last week, but I’m back now! And man was there some big news over the past few weeks to talk about. I’ve picked a few topics to quickly chat about, from the PS5 being announced in surprising fashion to new Star Wars games so let’s delve into this! PS5 Announced & Specs Revealed Sony surprised everyone by revealing the PS5. In an exclusive interview with Wired Mark Cerny told the world what can be expected from Sony’s next console. It wasn’t officially named the PS5 but…I mean, come on. The PS5 will have a Ryzen 8-core CPU at its core, giving the console a massive processing boast over the PS4. The current console generation has been severely lacking in terms of processing power with neither the Xbox One or PS4 actually boasting much more than the Xbox 360 and PS3. With an AMD processor under the bonnet developers will have a lot more oomph to use when it comes to A.I. and things like open world games. There’s going to be the expected graphical l...

Patch Notes: BioWare’s Problems, Borderlands & Pre-Owned Sales

In case you missed the past couple of Patch Notes this is a mid-week article where we cover a couple of pieces of news from the past week and I ramble about them, because rambling is what I do. This week has been pretty busy, but I’ve grabbed three things in particular that grabbed my limited attention span. So lets tackle the problems over at BioWare, the announcement of Borderlands 3 and the decline of pre-owned sales in the UK. Anthem’s Development & BioWare’s Problems Anthem continues to stagger from one bad situation to another, it seems. Thanks to Jason Schreier over at Kotaku we now seem to have a better understanding of Anthem’s long development and the current state of developer BioWare. Jason penned a truly mammoth 11,000+ word article in which he interviews no less than 19 BioWare employees who tell the story of a studio that doesn’t seem to know what its doing anymore. This account of Anthem’s development, based on interviews with 19 people who either worked on th...

Patch Notes: Borderlands & Lots Of New PS VR Games Announced

Welcome back to patch notes where I selectively chat about random bits of gaming news from the past week or so. This time there’s a lot of Sony stuff, plus Borderlands looks like its making a comeback. The big game announcement, or rather tease, of the week came from Gearbox who put out a short teaser trailer for some Borderlands related announcement coming March 28th. The trailer shows a lot of the franchise’s history which ties in with rumours of a Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, but there’s also plenty of interesting new things which indicate this could be a true Borderlands 3. Let’s hope so BECAUSE I AM SO READY FOR MORE BORDERLANDS! Some random Sony news came in the form of them announcing that they will no longer be providing full game download codes to physical retailers. I’ve got mixed feelings here because while very few shops actually sold these little plastic cards it was still nice to have the option in case you wanted to gift a game to a friend or perhaps simply...
