Weekend Whammy: Skate 3 & The Bloody Rose Band

Why, hello there fine people! Come in, come! Fancy a cuppa? I hope you guys are keeping well and playing hard. There’s a fair few games out at the moment, so we aren’t lacking in choice. Anyway, let’s chat about what I’ve been playing, and please do let me know what you’ve been playing and what you think of it. So, this week I put out a pretty long review of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 which I ultimately gave a 4 out of 5 too. I was really impressed by how much of an improvement it is over the first game, and how thoroughly it kicked Anthem’s backside. A satisfying swathe of main missions, great loot system and solid end-game all create a game that actually feels good at launch rather than trying to persuade people it’ll be good in the future. The Division 2 is good now, and will hopefully only grow and get better with time. I’m still playing The Division 2 as well, which says something about the strength of its combat and looting. At the moment I’m gearing myself up for the release...

Weekend Whammy: Devil May Cry 5 & The Division 2

Damn, did you see that weekend whooshing by? Going a bit fast, wasn’t it? Yup, time sure is flying these days, disappearing quicker than my enthusiasm for being a normal, sociable human being. So first up I previewed Warhammer: Chaosbane, a Diablo style game with plenty of hacking, slashing and looting. It’s not due out until June, so there’s plenty of time for refinement, but my initial impressions were reasonably good. At the moment I’m cautiously looking forward to Warhammer: Chaosbane. This closed beta didn’t blow me away but it did manage to scratch the loot itch which Anthem failed so horribly to do. There are a few months until Warhammer: Chaosbane is due to launch, providing some time for the developers to polish things up and respond to some of the community feedback. Fingers crossed for another good Warhammer game, then. Warhammer: Chaosbane preview The absolute highlight of the past week or so has been Devil May Cry 5, the review for which I’m working on. Good gri...

Random Loot: Going Back To The Division

I won’t try to lie and claim that Ubisoft’s The Division left me feeling impressed when it first launched. There were some good ideas and man was it beautiful from a visual perspective, but it was ultimately a hollow experience. Still, with The Division 2 coming in a few months and lots of people saying The Division is far better than it was at launch I fired The Division back up. Immediately it hit me that I had forgotten how good The Division looks. The recreation of New York post disaster and covered in a thin layer of snow looks beautiful yet sad and lonely. The streets are covered in bags of garbage, abandoned cars and general detritus. It’s a desolate place that oozes atmosphere. It’s such a shame Ubisoft failed to tap into the settings amazing potential to tell stories through environmental details. “There’s potential here. It exists. That, however, is way off in the future. Right now, right here, The Division is nothing special. “ – Me, reviewing The Division several ...

Steel Division: Normandy '44 Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: Eugen Publisher: Paradox Interactive Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: Yes Review code supplied free of charge by the publisher. From behind a wall of trees far in the distance my artillery unleashes a barrage of smoke to blind the MG42 heavy machine gun that would otherwise rip my infrantry apart. With cover in place my troops run across open ground and flank the position, only to find an enemy tank has been waiting patiently behind a nearby building, and my own lack of recon means I was unprepared for it. Stupid me. My troops get pinned down, rendering them useless, and then they get demolished. Fine. Time to bring up the heavy armor, complete with air support that smashes the anti-tank guns sitting way back before my own tanks roll in. On another front I’ve got some infantry holding a town with anti-tank weapons supporting them from across the open fields where they can get a good bead on anything big and ugly rolling in to cause trouble...
