Weekend Whammy: Free Game Code, Tropico 6 & Generation Zero

The weekend has returned to seek its vengeance, to right the many wrongs of the world. It has donned a cape and mask, and now sits atop a gargoyle in a stormy night, watching and waiting for its prey. For it is….Bat-Weekend! I have no idea where I’m going with this. Let’s…let’s just get on with it, yeah? Before we go any further the first person to enter the code below into Steam (via the Activate Game options you can find under the Games tab) will get the amazing point and click adventure game Deponia for free. Are you ready? Here it is. 7Q8N4-M9T4T-9W5YX So this week I put out a single review which was for The Wizards: Enhanced Edition. It’s a VR game available for PS VR, Oculus Rift and the Vive and is about hurling magic spells at goblins and trolls. There’s some fun to be had playing it, but ultimately it never fully clicked with me. I also put out third entry in my new Patch Notes series, this week tackling the brilliant Kotaku article that broke down the troubled developmen...

Weekend Whammy: Christmas Carnage & Virtual Reality

Oh, hello there, weekend! I didn’t see you standing menacingly in the shadows. How are you these fine holidays? What? What’s that? Why have you got that!? No! NO! NOOOOO! Stop stabbing me with a candy cane, you foul beast! ARRRRGGGGHHHHH! Yes, it’s the weekend once again which means it’s time to ramble! If you haven’t already seen it then go and check out my Top 10 Games of 2018 where I will have undoubtedly annoyed about 50% of everybody who reads it because nothing riles up the Internet like a list and opinions! Still, I’m pretty happy with it. It’s mostly big triple-A titles this year but there’s a couple of smaller games in the mix as well. Christmas is looming over us all at the moment, so naturally everything has been chaos. For a change I actually did my Christmas shopping at a reasonable time, though, so at least I’m not running around trying to get presents. Are you guys hoping to get any gaming goodies this year? This week I’ve mostly been playing the crap out of God of W...

Fans Are Trying To Remake Dino Crisis In Unreal Engine 4

Screenshot: Team Arklay (YouTube) Debuting 20 years ago this month in Japan, Capcom’s short-lived Dino Crisis series asked, “What if dinosaurs instead of zombies?” Now, some fans have taken it upon themselves to remake Dino Crisis using Unreal Engine 4. The first Dino Crisis game remains a bright spot in the PS1 catalog, and despite the longing of fans eager to see it reemerge all these years later, it wasn’t part of the PlayStation Classic’s library and isn’t available as part of any HD collection. Given the anniversary, this seemed like as good a year as any for Capcom to announce some sort of remake similar to Resident Evil 2, but E3 came and went without any news. No wonder, then, that the modder group Team Arklay has taken it upon themselves to try and give Dino Crisis a second life in Unreal Engine 4. As first spotted by DSO Gaming, the team has been releasing videos of its work on YouTube in recent weeks. The latest includes a deep dive into eerie, steel-plated hallways. There ...

Destiny Players Are Getting Fed Up With A Ridiculous Grenade Launcher Quest

For months, hardcore Destiny 2 players have been trying to scale their way up to a seemingly impossible mountaintop. The Mountaintop, in fact… because that’s the name of a Legendary grenade launcher in Destiny 2 that many players have coveted for a long time. It is, as its name implies, incredibly labor-intensive to get, with no real work-arounds other than to just buckle down and do the work. Trouble is, “doing the work” makes you play Destiny 2 like a bit of a jerk. The Mountaintop is a Pinnacle Weapon, a type of Legendary weapon introduced with Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion. They’re top-tier legendary weapons introduced at the start of a new season, and players are meant to spend that whole season trying to grind them out. In other words, they’re meant to be a lot of work. To get Mountaintop, you have to complete three steps once you’ve received the “First of Many” pursuit from Lord Shaxx in the Tower: Reach the Glory rank “Brave” in the Crucible within a season. Use grenade launch...
