Weekend Whammy: More Mordhau, Peggle 2 & Why Motivational Mute Is Awesome

Hello again my friends, enemies and people that I barely care about. The weekend has been and gone yet again, leaving in its wake a trail of unconscious bodies. Just one review this week which was of The Sinking City, a new open-world detective game from Frogware based upon the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. Frogware previous made some pretty good Sherlock Holmes games and The Sinking City uses some of the same concepts when it comes to figuring stuff out. It’s the Lovecraftian horror where Frogware kind of struggled, I think, especially the weedy combat. Still, it was an enjoyable game that a niche audience will probably love. More than anything The Sinking City got me thinking about the continued popularity of Lovecraft. Now that his work is public domain Cthulhu and his cosmic brethren keep popping up all over the place. The cynical side of me can’t help but think that the appeal is less Lovecraft’s intriguing writings and more the fact that developers get access to a massive wealt...

Weekend Whammy: My Dog, Draugen & Good Omens

Another weekend has come and gone like a slightly drunken ghost trying its best to haunt you. It was a busy one, so I’m looking forward to crawling into bed and forgetting about the whole existence thing for a while. Maybe in the morning I’ll make a pillow fort and refuse to come out for anything less than Sticky Toffee Pudding. This week I rambled a bit in my review of Descenders, the arcade mountain biking game about going way too fast down big hills. It also quickly became about going crashing into trees way too fast. Anyway, I wound up really liking the blend of randomly generated tracks and fun physics. It had some big flaws holding it back, but for now it’s the best mountain biking game we have. The competition isn’t exactly vast, mind you. My second rambling of the week came in the form of a review for Team Sonic Racing. Somehow I managed to do the entire review without bringing up the fact that it’s a little strange Sonic the Hedgehog would bother with a car. Anyway, bloody...

Weekend Whammy: Anno 1800 Is Ace, And More Weed Chat

The weekend has somehow been and gone yet again, leaving me naked in a puddle with no idea who I am, why I am or just why in general. To be fair, though, it isn’t just the weekend that has this effect on me. Mondays do, too, as well as Tuesdays. Wednesdays as well, now that I think about it. And Thursdays. Oh, and Fridays. So this week I put out a review of Weedcraft Inc which proved to be a fun little strategy game about growing cannabis and selling it on for a profit. As much as I enjoyed the game, though, I found myself more intrigued by the story of how publishing it was a pain in the arse. Devolver Digital spoke to Techcrunch and said: This is definitely the hardest game I’ve had to market, and that’s saying something. It has been a fucking nightmare. The fact that we’re still so afraid of a topic like weed instead of the murder simulators you can market any time, anywhere, it’s shocking.” He’s not wrong. Devolver Digital has faced problems with social media bans and Youtub...

Patch Notes: Borderlands & Lots Of New PS VR Games Announced

Welcome back to patch notes where I selectively chat about random bits of gaming news from the past week or so. This time there’s a lot of Sony stuff, plus Borderlands looks like its making a comeback. The big game announcement, or rather tease, of the week came from Gearbox who put out a short teaser trailer for some Borderlands related announcement coming March 28th. The trailer shows a lot of the franchise’s history which ties in with rumours of a Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, but there’s also plenty of interesting new things which indicate this could be a true Borderlands 3. Let’s hope so BECAUSE I AM SO READY FOR MORE BORDERLANDS! Some random Sony news came in the form of them announcing that they will no longer be providing full game download codes to physical retailers. I’ve got mixed feelings here because while very few shops actually sold these little plastic cards it was still nice to have the option in case you wanted to gift a game to a friend or perhaps simply...

Weekend Whammy: Devil May Cry 5 & The Division 2

Damn, did you see that weekend whooshing by? Going a bit fast, wasn’t it? Yup, time sure is flying these days, disappearing quicker than my enthusiasm for being a normal, sociable human being. So first up I previewed Warhammer: Chaosbane, a Diablo style game with plenty of hacking, slashing and looting. It’s not due out until June, so there’s plenty of time for refinement, but my initial impressions were reasonably good. At the moment I’m cautiously looking forward to Warhammer: Chaosbane. This closed beta didn’t blow me away but it did manage to scratch the loot itch which Anthem failed so horribly to do. There are a few months until Warhammer: Chaosbane is due to launch, providing some time for the developers to polish things up and respond to some of the community feedback. Fingers crossed for another good Warhammer game, then. Warhammer: Chaosbane preview The absolute highlight of the past week or so has been Devil May Cry 5, the review for which I’m working on. Good gri...

Patch Notes: Dead Computer Equals Unhappy Me

Hey folks, So, I don’t usually do updates like this but I just wanted to let you all know what is currently going on in the world of Wolf. Simply put, my computer is currently dead. Last week it started acting up and then died completely. I won’t bore you with the symptoms, but suffice to say I went through a lot of potential solutions and then eventually stripped it down part by part in order to locate the fault. I narrowed it down to being either the motherboard, a MSI X370 Titanium, or the Ryzen 5 1600 CPU. Both aren’t even a year old, and neither is even fully paid for yet. I’m pretty sure it’s the motherboard at fault, although I can’t be completely certain. I think it’s the more likely option, though. Anyway, I had to contact the company I bought it from and send it back. It got collected back on April 21st and the fault was a few days before that, so I’ve been without my beloved rig for just over a week and as sad as it sounds I think I’m going a bit crazy. I had a Dead by D...
