Fortnite World Cup Players Who Didn't Score Have A Sense Of Humor About It

Photo: Epic Games The point spread at today’s Fortnite World Cup Solo finals was massive, with winner Bugha scoring 26 points more than second place finisher Psalm. But not everyone can win: Four players came away with zero points, but—at least on Twitter—they were good sports about it. All of today’s 100 Solo finals competitors are immensely skilled players, and even those who came in last went home with at least $50,000. Still, it can’t feel good to be at the bottom, even if it’s the bottom of the top. North America West player Herrions, Brazil player Clipnode, North America East player Funk, and Asia player Arius all came in at zero points today. This performance could feel crushing after coming so far, but the four players took it in stride. “Oof,” Herrions tweeted, following with “Well you live and learn.” An hour later, however, he tweeted a sad emoji. Advertisement Clipnode, who is from Argentina, tweeted his thoughts in Spanish, which translate to “Sorry I wasn’t prepared, I w...

The Bard's Tale IV Review

Platforms: PC Reviewed On: PC Developer: inXile Publisher: inXile Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: No   Review code provided by the publisher. I n the village of Skara Brae, where the game opens, there’s a merchant who apparently sells soup. I say apparently because I’ve never seen this soup. The man selling it claims I’m not worthy to taste his legendary broth, and even the loading screen gently informs me that I’ll never be worthy, that I should accept it and just move on. But I couldn’t. Over the coming hours, I defeated evil sorcerers, saved the world, solved a bunch of puzzles and even herded some fairies around the place. I never forgot about the soup, though. Maybe one day I will be worthy. One day.   It’s been some 33-years since the very first Bard’s Tale arrived on the scene, and two sequels followed before the series seemingly died in 1991, the very same year I was born. It’s a little strange to see the franchise suddenly resurrected, perhaps a direct result of th...

What's With Racing Games And One Word Names?

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4 Reviewed On: Xbox One Developer: Milestone Publisher: Milestone Singleplayer: Yes Multiplayer: Yes Review copy supplied free of charge by the publisher. Milestone have been around for years, quietly pumping out a variety of racing games that have rarely amazed but have clearly found themselves small audiences. Now, though, Milestone are back with another original IP and while it’s unlikely Gravel is going to be competing with the big boys of the genre it’s a surprisingly robust and enjoyable arcade racer that revels in letting you scream around corners. But to get to that good stuff you’ve first got to deal with the presentation which feels like it took note of the DiRT franchise’s foray into “extreme!” and pitches itself as some sort of TV show named Gravel presenting the Off-Road Masters races. At the start of events, you’ll be subjected to a thankfully skippable chunk of commentary from the show’s presenter, and there are even FMV sequences invo...

Kingsburg 2nd Edition Review

Designed by: Andrea Chiarvesio, Luca Iennaco Art by: Mario Barbati, Davide Corsi, Roberto Pitturru Published by: Z-Man Games Players: 2-5 Playtime: 90-120 Minutes Review copy supplied free of charge by Asmodee UK Games usually get a second print run if they’ve done something right, so this second edition of Kingsburg seems to indicate that when it first came out people must have quite liked it. Me? Well, I’m still a relative noob, so I never played it when it first came out or in the intervening time since. Now its gotten a bit of a royal makeover with all-new artwork, some rather sexy dice and the entirety of the To Forge a Kingdom expansion rammed into the box for good measure. But thousands of people are wrong all the damn time about things, so is this dice-placement game actually any good? Have I really been missing out? Under orders from the wise and bearded King your job is to hob-nob with the court advisors in order to gather wood, stone, gold and other valuable things t...

Vengeance Board Game Review

Designed by: Gordon Calleja Art by: Axel Torvenius Published By: Mighty Boards Players: 1-4 Playtime: 30-120 Minutes Review copy supplied free of charge by Asmodee UK. As a movie fan, I can’t count how many times I’ve seen a man or woman wronged by the villain before setting out to gain vengeance against the perpetrator, their friends, their family, their dog and anyone within a several mile radius. It’s a simple plot device that has been the driving motivation behind some of the best action movies ever, with a prime recent example being the mighty John Wick who had a pure, direct reason to go on a rampage; some jerks killed the dog his dead wife gave to him, and also stole his beloved car. As reasons to go on a rampage go, it’s a pretty good one. Vengeance is a board game that seeks to take this classic action movie plot device and bring it to the world of cardboard, dice and miniatures.  To this end, every game of Vengeance starts with the Wronging, a phase where you play bos...

Row, Row Your Boat, Gently Pillage The Village

Designed by: Shem Phillips Art by: Mohajlo Dimitrievski Published by: Graphill Games Players: 1-4 Playtime: 45-60 Minutes Review copy supplied free of charge by Asmodee UK. Having successfully pillaged everything surrounding their village in Raiders of the North Sea our happy band of blood-thirsty Vikings reckons it’s time to explore the larger world so that they can pillage it, too. At least they’re consistent, I suppose. Yes, this is the third game in the North Sea trilogy and going into it I was very curious as to whether designer would opt for a heavier, deeper experience for the last game in the series before all three get bound together by Runesaga, or would stick with the lighter feel. So, your goal is to sail the seas, raid settlements, steal livestock, build outposts and wreck pirate ships in order to capture the victory points needed to be the most awesome Viking since Hiccup in How to Train your Dragon. To do that you first need to pick one of the two captains you’ll...
