Weekend Whammy: Decay of Logos, Control & Aquaman Rocks

Another weekend has passed into the annals of history, as time marches toward its inevitable violent conclusion. And on that happy note it’s time for another Weekend Whammy! Huzzah! Buckle up meat bags, because this week I’m taking more about Control , Luigi’s Mansion , Aquaman and Decay of Logo s. Right, once again before we get going I need to stop and ask you to please check out the Go Fund Me page for my friend with terminal cancer. She doesn’t have a lot of time left, but thanks to the government she has a bunch of debt, can’t pay the bills and is struggling just to get food on the table. I’m helping her out as much as I financially can, but if you can spare even £5 it would be amazingly helpful. Again, here’s the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-a-terminal-cancer-patient So, this week I reviewed Gibbous – A Cthulhu Adventure which was actually pretty light on the Cthulhu. Like, the tentacle to normal game ratio was heavily tilted in favour of the normal. Anyway it was...

Upgrade, Or Downgrade?

The Oculus Rift S is not the next big Rift that we’ve all been waiting for, and Oculus themselves have been careful not to advertise it as one. No, the Oculus Rift S is…uh. Honestly, the problem is I don’t think anyone is sure what the S actually is. It isn’t an upgrade nor arguably even a refinement as many of the improvements have come at the expense of other features. So, let’s review the Oculus Rift S and try to figure who this VR headset is really for. I’ll preface the review by saying I upgraded from the original Rift to the Oculus Rift S, so I’m familiar with the Oculus Rift and am writing this review from the perspective of someone who made the sacrifice. Oculus Rift S Packaging, Comfort & Build But before we delve deep into the headset itself let’s stop and quickly chat about the packaging. I know, I know, does the box it comes in make a difference? Not really, but in some ways the packaging for the Oculus Rift S is indicative of the system as a whole. Unboxing the ori...

Weekend Whammy: Switch Lite, Mobile Games & Batman & Robin

It’s way too damn hot. Sleep has become impossible because my sheets have melted together to form some sort of sentient being that whispers terrifying things in my ear at night. Or that might have just been a heat-induced nightmare, I dunno. Anyway, the weekend is officially over yet again, and that means it’s time for a Weekend Whammy! One review this week which is for Gorn, a rather brilliant VR brawler that is responsible for several dents in my table and in my knuckles. While it may not be the deep, chunky game that VR is still waiting for it is a game that lets you rip heads off using your bare-hands. Now that’s a selling point. I bit the bullet and bought Wolfenstein: Youngblood. The early trailers did not fill me full of confidence and I’m already regretting my purchase thanks to the amazing Skill Up’s review of the game. Stay tuned for my own views on it. So, I might sort have started playing The Witcher 3 again and let it kinda consume my life. Again. I have no regrets. A...

How To Make Oculus Touch Controllers More Like Index Knuckles

With the rise of VR headsets there’s been a whole new industry for accessories appeared almost overnight, from prescription lenses to fancy gun stocks, both of which I’ll be reviewing shortly. Today I’m checking out the Mamut Touch Grips for the Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest. These little bits of plastic aim to bring the Oculus Rift controllers more inline with Valve’s new Index Knuckle controllers. In other words, the Mamut Touch Grips allow you to let go of the controllers entirely. The Mamuts are essentially two rubber grips that slide onto the Oculus Rift Touch controllers. They extend and widen the handle and thus provide a bit more room for larger hands. On the outside of each Mamut there’s a textured surface to help improve your grip and overall they feel quite comfortable, though they don’t make a huge difference. The Oculus Rift S controllers were already quite comfy to hold, after all. But the big selling point are the straps that run across the back of your...

Fortnite World Cup Players Who Didn't Score Have A Sense Of Humor About It

Photo: Epic Games The point spread at today’s Fortnite World Cup Solo finals was massive, with winner Bugha scoring 26 points more than second place finisher Psalm. But not everyone can win: Four players came away with zero points, but—at least on Twitter—they were good sports about it. All of today’s 100 Solo finals competitors are immensely skilled players, and even those who came in last went home with at least $50,000. Still, it can’t feel good to be at the bottom, even if it’s the bottom of the top. North America West player Herrions, Brazil player Clipnode, North America East player Funk, and Asia player Arius all came in at zero points today. This performance could feel crushing after coming so far, but the four players took it in stride. “Oof,” Herrions tweeted, following with “Well you live and learn.” An hour later, however, he tweeted a sad emoji. Advertisement Clipnode, who is from Argentina, tweeted his thoughts in Spanish, which translate to “Sorry I wasn’t prepared, I w...

Weekend Whammy: Marvel Phase 4, The Witcher & Picard

I’m back with another entirely late Weekend Whammy, and this week I’m mostly chatting about The Witcher show and Marvel’s Phase 4 plans. As always this series of articles is just about the games I’ve reviewed, what I’ve been playing, watching and reading and anything else I fancy chatting about. Let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to this week as well! Right, just the one review this week because contrary to popular belief I do actually have a life. That’s a bold face lie. Anyway, this week I reviewed Defector for the Oculus Rift. It had some great elements, including a bloody amazing opening level, but it didn’t quite manage to keep the momentum going. It’s important to remember that VR is still very much in its infancy and developers are working to find out how to make games for it. Nor are the big developers willing to produce a big triple-A, full price game for the format yet, perhaps because there isn’t much of an install base yet to make a profit on one. Until VR d...

Defective, Or Effective?

The first mission of Defector is like a glorious homage to every over-the-top spy movie to have ever appeared on a screen. There’s a handler feeding you information, a bad guy to converse with and then the possibility of driving a car out of a plane before leaping out and landing in a different plane. Oh, and then gunning down a bunch of fighter jets using nothing but an assault rifle because that’s how the real world works. It’s a bombastic introduction to Defector , but then the game never does manage to reach the same highs again. It’s perhaps no wonder that it was this first level which was shown off in the demos and previews. But that doesn’t mean Defector doesn’t give it a shot and does so by mixing in a bunch of different ideas. In another of the five missions you get to pose as a masseuse, gently massaging away the suspect’s worries. There’s even an interrogation sequence involving questioning, punching and dangling the target out of a window. Hell, Defector even manages to ...
